Holiday Cyprus

Enjoying a short holiday in Cyprus 1997, we hired a couple of mopeds to get around the local area. On the way back to our hotel after collecting the mopeds from the hirer, Pat complained bitterly about the fierceness of the brakes. Being a bit more worldly wise about thye use of two wheeled machines, I tried his machine and could find nothing wrong. A bit miffed he then drove on, and stopped again shaking his head. We had a quick discussion about how he was applying the brakes, and the reason for the 'fierceness' became apparent - he was only using the front brake! For some reason the thought the little pedal by his left foot was the gear lever!! And this was after selecting the gears several times using the twist grip on the handlebars! For several years after I used to rib him by calling out - "don't forget that the rear brake is down by yoor left foot!"
